The Wonders of Modern Clay Modelling
One very subjective topic is art. Your definition of art might differ from others, and that is ok. However, conforming to the norm for something so personal is indeed challenging.
Artistic interests vary, and personal preferences best nurture creativity. You can express your creativity in many ways. One emerging hobby is clay sculpting. It does not require expensive gadgets but has managed to merge manual dexterity and a sharp eye for details.

What is clay sculpting?
It’s similar to pottery, except that a soft and flexible synthetic substance that hardens when exposed to heat and humidity is used instead of utilising mud. The air-dry sculpture is quite adaptable, and there are various methods and styles to choose from. If you want to mould or refine your piece through sanding, you can do so and still achieve excellent outcomes.
Air-dry sculpting traditional dough is used for modelling but is a different product. The method is the same for both types of dough (you knead, pull, and push to create the figure), but regular modelling dough may be redesigned several times, whereas air dry sculpting loses its flexibility after a while.

How to get started?
Like any project, you need basic tools and materials to take your vision to action. So first, decide on your initial piece. Then assemble what you will need:
Air-dry sculpting
The basic ingredient is air dry moulding medium. Because different suppliers have different product formulations, the appearance and texture of the air-dry medium may vary from one brand to another. Some are too soft, others are too stiff, and some are too coarse. Nevertheless, most brands can be fashioned into a figurine with enough diligence.
Metal wire
Some earth figures necessitate using a makeshift skeleton to serve as the figure’s foundation shape. It provides additional rigidity to the figure, maintaining its shape and form during the drying process. It must include wire cutters.
Modelling tools
Small detailed tools are a must-have for any successful modelling project. These instruments can poke holes, draw drawings, remove pieces of material, and even make impressions that are impossible to do with only your hands. Others reverse engineer the process by cutting from a block of dough while it is still soft and flexible using these instruments.
Rotary tools with cordless motors
Once the modelling medium solidifies, it becomes almost impossible to make any adjustments. If you want to continue refining your figurine, use a specialty tool to make the finishing touches, such as sanding and engraving.
Acrylic Paint
Without colour, remodelled people or figurines are lifeless and uninteresting. Acrylic paints are required to bring out the vibrancy in your creation. It’s ideal for painting after the curing process is complete and after you’ve smoothed off any rough edges or surfaces.
Acrylic sealer
After you have smoothed and coloured and are pleased with the results, the next step is to lock the colour in. It makes your figurine waterproof and leaves a glossy sheen. This extra touch elevates your creation, lending a more finished look.
Why explore the artist in you?
Studies have demonstrated that expressing oneself via art alleviates a wide range of illnesses and ailments, like depression, Alzheimer’s disease, or even the practice of fine motor skills. Whether drawing, writing, or playing with clay, making art, in general, can make you happier and more relaxed.
It can also enhance your observational, motor, and problem-solving abilities and your memory retention and hand-eye coordination, among other things.
